Teacher Training
City Academy Norwich is proud to play an active role in the training, development and retention of high‑quality teachers. We are committed to supporting colleagues at every stage of their career, from initial teacher training through to early career development and beyond.
We believe that great teaching transforms lives. As a school, we invest in people, create a culture of trust and reflection, and provide structured, high‑quality professional development so that staff can thrive and pupils can succeed.

Our partnerships include

Norwich Teacher Training Centre (NTTC)
University of East Anglia (UEA)
National Institute of Teaching (NIoT)
Norfolk and Suffolk SCITT
A Strong Environment for Early Career Teachers
City Academy Norwich is a highly supportive environment in which to complete ECT induction. A recent quality assurance visits from the Julian Teaching School Hub confirmed the strength of our provision, highlighting CAN as “a good school in which to complete ECT induction”.
They also went on to say “ECTs enjoy working at CAN and feel well supported by their mentors, Induction Tutor and the wider school community.”
This feedback reflects our culture of continuous improvement and our commitment to doing things well.
Our ITT and ECT Programme
We provide a well‑designed internal programme for both Initial Teacher Training (ITT) trainees and Early Career Teachers (ECT). This programme complements external training and is carefully tailored to the context and needs of our pupils and staff.
Our internal provision includes:
Structured induction and onboarding
High‑quality mentoring from experienced practitioners
Regular opportunities to observe expert teaching
Clear systems for support, feedback and professional dialogue
Fortnightly CPD sessions delivered by expert teachers from within the context of the school.
We ensure that trainees and ECTs are supported, challenged appropriately, and given the confidence to develop secure classroom practice.
Training at City Academy Norwich
At City Academy Norwich, we are proud of the positive, inclusive and ambitious culture we have built. Trainees and ECTs are valued members of our community and are supported to develop into reflective, resilient and effective teachers.
If you are interested in teacher training or early career development at CAN, we would be delighted to discuss opportunities with you.
